Abstract: In Brazil, goat production has advanced considerably over the years, mainly anejodue to the&#xD;
adaptability and rusticity of the animal and the numerous products that it is able to offer.&#xD;
However, within any animal breeding, it is essential that a prior planning is carried out for the&#xD;
use of appropriate techniques and correct management, ensuring the maintenance of animal&#xD;
health and welfare, quality of production, reduction of risks and future costs for the producer.&#xD;
In case of failure, the health of the goat is compromised and it may be predisposed to develop&#xD;
several diseases, being the respiratory system one of the most affected and that mainly affects&#xD;
animals that are still developing as goats. The objective of this study is to report three cases of&#xD;
respiratory diseases in goat kids that were followed up during the internship period at the&#xD;
Large Animal Clinic of the University of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of UNESP&#xD;
- Botucatu in 2022, correlating them and seeking to point out the main causes of management&#xD;
error that may predispose the animal to these conditions. Besides the follow-up of the cases,&#xD;
the records of the patients and the results of the complementary exams, obtained through the&#xD;
internal system of the Veterinary Hospital, were analyzed. The patients of the case are male&#xD;
goats, of the Anglo Nubian breed, who were referred to the Clinic with the main complaints&#xD;
being dyspnea, apathy and lack of appetite. In only one of the animals it was possible to&#xD;
perform treatment and clinical discharge, the other two died the same day they arrived and the&#xD;
necropsy of both was performed to obtain the causes of death.

Abstract: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is more commonly seen in cats of advanced age,&#xD;
being one of the most common causes of mortality in these animals. CKD is the result of&#xD;
a gradual loss in the number of nephrons leading to impairment of metabolic, excretory,&#xD;
endocrine and renal functions. The etiology of the disease is multifactorial and can be&#xD;
stimulated by numerous causes and from different origins. Polyuria and polydipsia can&#xD;
be the first clinical signs, however, at the beginning of the disease, the clinical&#xD;
manifestations can be nonspecific, so when the disease is discovered, it is usually in&#xD;
advanced stages, since it is difficult to identify it early. The assessment of the glomerular&#xD;
filtration rate (GFR) is the most efficient method for diagnosing CKD, however, it is&#xD;
impracticable to be performed in the clinical routine, therefore, the diagnosis is based on&#xD;
renal biomarkers such as serum creatinine, SDMA, calcium and phosphorus, urea and&#xD;
others. The International Renal Interest Society (IRIS) establishes that after the animal is&#xD;
diagnosed, it must be correctly staged based on creatinine, SDMA, proteinuria and blood&#xD;
pressure. The importance of correct staging is to provide the animal with the correct&#xD;
treatment based on the stage and the clinical manifestations presented, because, as it is an&#xD;
irreversible and progressive disease, it does not have a cure, its treatment is carried out&#xD;
based on the clinical manifestations and to give a better quality of life for the animal.&#xD;
Because it is a difficult disease to be identified early and is more common in geriatric&#xD;
cats, it is necessary that these animals undergo a check-up at least twice a year in order to&#xD;
rule out or identify problems that could be a CKD.

    <title>Hipertensão Arterial em Felinos: Revisão de literatura.</title>

Abstract: Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) is considered an abnormal and persistent&#xD;
elevation of systolic blood pressure (SBP) and its high values determine disease with&#xD;
or without clinical expression. Three types can be considered: situational or white coat,&#xD;
idiopathic and secondary, with a higher prevalence of secondary among felines,&#xD;
usually associated with some concomitant disease or condition. This work aims to carry&#xD;
out a review of the literature on SAH in felines, showing the importance of diagnosis&#xD;
and previous treatments of SAH. Early diagnosis of SAH is essential to prevent disease&#xD;
progression and reduce the chances of irreparable damage to the feline's body and,&#xD;
consequently, improve quality of life and reduce mortality. The prognosis depends on&#xD;
the nature and severity of the diseases that gave rise to SAH, and regular monitoring&#xD;
of SAH is important in order to avoid problems. Thus, it is important that the treatment&#xD;
is instituted with the objective of reducing the SBP values, in addition to taking into&#xD;
account the clinical animal situation, in order to reduce the risk of damage to target&#xD;
organs.

Abstract: Congenital anomalies are mutations that occur during the formation of the fetus&#xD;
and can generate functional and morphological alterations of the organism&#xD;
during the life of an animal, and among such alterations, the Persistent Ductus&#xD;
Arteriosus (PDA) would be the most common congenital heart disease in dogs,&#xD;
having a smaller casuistry when it comes to felines. The ductus arteriosus is a&#xD;
structure of the Cardiac System that is present during the intrauterine life of the&#xD;
animal, helping fetal circulation, since the absence of lung expansion during&#xD;
pregnancy generates an overload to the blood flow; and the ductus arteriosus is&#xD;
one of the vessels that should be closed at birth, once after the parturition of the&#xD;
animal, lung expansion and an increase in Partial Pressure of O2 occur,&#xD;
generating a contraction in the smooth muscle of the ductus arteriosus, causing&#xD;
the closing it and forming the Ligamentous Arteriosus. However, if such&#xD;
constriction of the muscle does not occur due to some congenital anomaly, PDA&#xD;
or Patent Ductus Arteriosus occurs, a disease that can present itself in two&#xD;
ways: the classic one, which characterizes the deviation from left to right that&#xD;
would be the blood flow from the aorta going to the pulmonary artery; or the&#xD;
reverse form, with deviation from right to left, generating blood flow from the&#xD;
pulmonary artery to the aorta. The diagnosis is made by the combination of&#xD;
clinical signs and complementary tests such as radiography, electrocardiogram&#xD;
and echocardiogram, which provide information on the state of the heart and&#xD;
what changes are occurring. The treatment is surgical, however, it is necessary&#xD;
to assess the general condition of the patient in advance to define whether he&#xD;
needs prior stabilization or not for the surgery, since PDA can also generate&#xD;
Congestive Heart Failure (CHF).
